Responsa -- Answers to Pertinent Questions:

Salt

Q: : Why was salt an integral part of the sacrifices brought in the Temple?

A: As is written in the Torah, a covenant is ratified with salt. Salt does not spoil, and thus has the power to preserve. The eternity of salt represents addition in the study of the inner dimension of the Torah (Kabbalah and Chassidut), together with the study of all parts of the Torah and mitzvah fulfillment, as explained in Likutei Torah of Rabbi Shneur Zalman of Liadi.
