Q&A: Chassidic Psychology for Converts?

Q: I teach in a seminary for young women who wish to convert to Judaism. We currently have an excellent group and the atmosphere is very positive. Is it correct to add content from Chassidic Psychology into our program, or should we focus strictly on the basics – Jewish law, Jewish festivals, etc.?

A: The Torah has a body and a soul and both are vital. When studying the body of the Torah, the revealed laws etc, it is worthwhile for the candidates for conversion to understand that this revealed part of the Torah has an inner soul. We must know that the primary factor that attracts people to Torah in our generation is its inner dimension. This is a guideline when planning your program.
