A: Our Sages teach us that had it not been for the Sin of the Golden Calf, it would have been enough for Israel to receive the five books of the Pentateuch and the book of Joshua. Now that Israel sinned at the Golden Calf, and the first Tablets were broken, we have merited the additional 18 books of the Bible.
